National Grid System Operability Framework’s November 2016 analysis shows a need for new energy storage assets to help manage system frequency at transmission and distribution level. In the next five years, this frequency response requirement will increase by 30-40% and this trend is expected to continue with National Grid forecasts for 2025 showing the need for frequency services to be 3-4 times higher than the current level.
This represents a significant growth opportunity for utility scale energy storage assets, which will be essential in meeting this requirement.
Our portfolio includes a construction ready 10MW project with an enhanced frequency response (EFR) contract from National Grid, an 8MW standalone project at an advanced stage of development and a 68MW development pipeline of additional standalone projects with land and grid identified and securitisation in process. The remainder of the portfolio includes earlier stage projects under initial review with a total installed capacity of circa 114MW.
For the projects, we are able to offer a range of technology solutions, fully wrapped EPC contracting options, comprehensive operations and maintenance agreements and a competitive route to market opportunity.
