The Volvo XC40 Recharge is a mid-size SUV, with an impressive array of technology features, stylish design and excellent comfort. Leasing a Volvo electric car offers you the chance to drive an upmarket and powerful model, while at the same time supporting the manufacturer's commitment to sustainable energy.
Key highlights of the Volvo XC40
Think of the Volvo XC40 Recharge as like a petrol or diesel XC40, just made better. Electric power plays to the car’s strengths of top-notch comfort and quietness, while also offering impressive performance particularly in dual motor form. The 2023 updates improve range and charging speed, too.
With a stylish design, this cool Swedish SUV is eye-catching yet classy. There’s more headroom than the curvier C40 Recharge and smart storage, so you can safely pack your laptop, cables, lunch and liquids in specially designed compartments.
The interior design of the XC40 incorporates sustainable materials too, with wool fibre upholstery and a new type of floor carpet constructed from recycled plastic bottles. It still feels premium and built to last, however.
The XC40 is equipped with a high-tech infotainment system that features integrated Google apps and maps, plus good smartphone connectivity. Leasing a Volvo electric car will also give you access to unlimited data with the digital services package, as well as remote access via an app. Volvo also cares deeply about safety, and the XC40 has all the assistance features you'd expect, including an array of sensors and exterior cameras that provide you with all-around vision.
Volvo XC40 performance & range
The XC40 is identical underneath to its sister all-electric vehicle, the C40 Recharge. That means the option of single or dual motor power and two battery sizes.
Opting for the entry-level XC40 Recharge gets you a 69kWh battery and a decent 0-62mph time of 7.4 seconds. That’ll be sufficient for most people, as will its 272-mile quoted range.
There’s plenty of performance lovers out there, and those who like the way a Tesla fires you down the road will be impressed by the XC40 Recharge Twin. With dual motors and 408bhp that 0-62mph time drops to an impressive 4.7 seconds, and it feels even faster than that, with astonishing pace.
Despite all the extra straight-line speed you don’t have to sacrifice range, as the Recharge Twin also gets a bigger 82kWh battery for up to 312 miles of range on a charge. Impressive.

We've made leasing an electric car easier than ever
The Volvo XC40 Recharge is a stylish and capable family car that offers a premium interior design, plenty of space, as well as safety and comfort in abundance. It’s also surprisingly quick in dual-motor form, while thanks to the 2023 update the range and charging speed are now very competitive.
Leasing with GRIDSERVE also means you can get three months of free charging using any GRIDSERVE charger located around the UK. It’s really simple too, as we’ll send you a contactless card in the post which you can use to pay any charging costs in the first three months of your XC40 lease deal (or any other model you decide to choose).
There are three options when choosing an XC40 Recharge as your next lease car:
The entry-level edition, known as Core, has a bunch of excellent features that make driving the XC40 a hugely enjoyable experience. These include cruise control, lane keeping assist and rear parking sensors all coming as standard, along with 18-inch alloy wheels.
The Plus trim adds a number of key features, such as a heated sports-style steering wheel, a sportier front grille, plus an air quality system that filters out any unwanted particles. There’s also a very handy blind spot indicator, plus a rear parking camera to help you out in tight manoeuvres.
The top of the range edition of the XC40 is called Ultimate. It adds 19-inch Matt Graphite alloy wheels, along with microtech seats and a panoramic sunroof. There’s also a brilliant 360-degree parking camera and the highest spec of Volvo’s Pilot Assist.Prices do tend to fluctuate over time so there’s no sure-fire answer to which model is the cheapest, but the Core trim tends to be the most budget-friendly version. The easy way to check on the exact prices is to filter the list of models above, by clicking the price column at the top to show the deals in either lowest price to highest, or highest price to lowest. You can also filter by range and battery size to help you find the right version of the XC40 for you.
The exact time it will take to charge your new XC40 will depend on which specification you’ve chosen, as well as the type of charger you’re using. As an example, the XC40 Recharge Twin Motor has a rapid charging capability up to 205 kW, which can see the charge replenished from 10% - 80% in just 28 minutes.
