Electric Forecourt® Assistant Manager

Based in:  Braintree, Essex, UK

Role Overview:

You will assist the General Manager on onsite and day to day activities working in collaboration to deliver exceptional standards, awesome customer experience, and sales optimisation with a genuine commitment to making people happy - guest and team alike.


GRIDSERVE® is responsible for building the UK’s first Electric Forecourt.


Our first site at Braintree, Essex will be one of the most technically advanced electric vehicle charging stations for 32 electric charging bays powered by 100% renewable energy with a retail facility above, featuring a high quality lounge for customers to use while their vehicles are charging.  This also acts as an educational area, providing information about electric vehicles, solar energy generation and ecology. The proposal includes extensive landscaping and a picnic area, creating an attractive environment in harmony with nature.


Our ambition is to create a space that encourages EV and Non-EV drivers alike to enjoy a premium retail, EV experience and well-being area where they can interact with the environment and community. It is like non another service stations, it is a community space that facilitates an optimal premium convenience retail destination.


This is a role for a dynamic, ambitious and forward-thinking Team Leader or Assistant Manager to join our Retail Operations team to help deliver the retail customer experience within GRIDSERVE® 1st Electric Forecourt. Sales experience is key, as you will require the ability to help lead our on-site vehicle solutions and lead generation.


Working hours will include early and late shifts across 7 days a week, in line with operational retail hours of 6am – 10pm.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Assisting the GM in managing the team members to ensure brand standards and customer service levels are achieved and are of the highest standards

  • Ensure all staff members are aware of all current promotions and products through regular briefings

  • Leading on the innovative new customer experience of showcasing Electric Cars at the UK’s First Electric Forecourt®

  • Creating and maintaining a customer centric environment which helps demystify the barriers of Electric Cars and provides a space where customer can learn and reflect on the benefits of Electric Cars

  • Lead and nurture using in-store technology, on a new car leasing processes, making the process seamless, fast and enjoyable for customers

  • Assisting the General Manager on all on-site related activities including H&S matters and related paperwork

  • You will also assist in recruitment and training of the site team to cater for operational retail hours of 7 days a week, 6am-10pm

  • Adhere and apply all licensing laws

  • Ensure that all Daily standards Audit are completed

  • Responsible when in charge for managing and maintaining to high brand standards, including the communal and serviceable areas

  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes including anti-bribery policy and Environmental and Quality Management System (compliant with ISO 9001 and 14001)

Skills Required:

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years’ retail or Sales experience as a Team Leader/Supervisor or Assistant Manager

  • Working within a multi-operator services retail environment or fast paced consumer goods sales environment is advantageous

  • You are enthusiastic, determined, and passionate about the customer experience with 1st class standards and have the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders both internal and external

  • Confident, articulated and passionate about Retail with 1st calls standards

  • Innovative, confident, and pro-active approach

  • Be able to work independently and know when to escalate issues

  • Self-driven, focused, results and quality oriented.  The ability to foster self-motivation to achieve tight deadlines

  • Team player, innovative with sound judgement and solutions driven

  • Able to approach work with positive energy and integrity

  • The ability to foster self-motivation to achieve impeccable service levels

  • Cordial and professional with excellent customer facing skills and effective communication both verbally and in written form

  • Computer literate.  Must be a proficient user of Microsoft suite of packages including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint, where needed

  • Flexible and willing to work a range of early/late shifts, weekends, and bank holidays.
