Head of Project Engineering

Based at: UK Iver Office and Project Sites as required

Responsible for:

Engineering performance, managing the day to day deliverables of the engineering projects work stream including GRIDSERVE® hybrid Solar and storage (BESS) sites and Electric Forecourts®.

This newly created role is part of GRIDSERVE’s® ongoing growth plans and in anticipation of deploying its portfolio of assets.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Focus on timing, quality and productivity by effectively by managing the ‘day to day’ deliverables of the engineering projects work-stream by setting, agreeing and delivering to targets inclusive of project management, scope management, issues and risk management, status reporting and escalation managed as needed

  • Build, lead and manage a strong [Project] Engineering function; meeting future demands, driving and challenging the engineering team to continually grow and improve

  • Engineering resource management and functional leadership, along with co-ordinating the effective resourcing of projects and the management of individual performances to defined objectives

  • Responsive to internal & external customer deadlines, external technical trends and developments effectively managing project delivery commitments with teams’ external to the core team.

  • Set and enforce standards, ensure rigour, resilience and continuous improvement in design processes, meeting all regulatory requirements, conforming to specification, quality and certification requirements within schedule and budget

  • Build on and foster the culture of innovation and creativity

  • Facilitate issue resolution across engineering through marshaling the correct resources to bring the issue to a successful closure

  • Develop effective and lean engineering PM tools and methodologies to facilitate successful engineering project management and execution to expectations 

  • Provide Engineering Project Management governance support to the delivery teams Project Managers in delivering the status updates and planning of activities in the project

  • Manage, motivate and develop of engineering staff, through the provision of effective, timely performance reviews, the provision of continuous support and mentoring to the growing engineering team along with ensuring training needs of staff and opportunities for development to maximize their potential are realised

  • Work collaboratively with senior engineering, functional and business leadership teams in the management and development of the strategic planning.

  • Work closely with the Chief Technology Officer in designing, developing, and deploying scalable technologies that will lead to increased consumer satisfaction

  • Working with senior management to ensure the company’s systems meet the overall business requirements and standards and report on status of engineering projects operations, quality, and system performance to senior engineering leadership

  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes including anti-bribery policy and Environmental and Quality Management System (compliant with ISO 9001 and 14001)


Qualifications & Skills Required:


  • Post graduate degree or equivalent industry experience

  • 10+ years of work experience in a senior project engineering and/or engineering project management role with vast experience in deploying and operating utility scale solar, energy storage and associated power systems

  • Detailed understanding of Solar and storage (BESS) sites. Understands the solar, battery and power markets in which the Group operates, including competition, suppliers and the regulatory environment

  • Proven experience of leading departments or functions successfully, delivering multi-disciplinary [project] engineering within a DEPC projects environment across utility scale solar, energy storage and associated power engineering discipline

  • Proven financial management and control of internal budgets

  • Work comfortably in a constantly evolving environment

  • Results orientated and focused on delivery and improvement of business results, including accurate forecasting and time, cost and schedule excellence

  • Drive, energy and enthusiasm for delivering to commitment whilst having an ability to move a cross-functional group in a unified direction and with a common vision

  • The ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary and project matrix and to model and inspire behaviours that lead to growth and innovation through collaboration across the whole organization

  • Market aware and stays abreast of leading, cutting-edge technologies and industry best practices

  • Imperative communication skills both in written and verbal

  • Keen eye for detail, with a constant and insatiable thirst for knowledge

  • Ability to remain calm and composed in times of uncertainty and stress, inspiring the same in his peers and juniors

  • Will be a likable and relatable individual who is able to make meaningful and lasting connections with others

  • The successful candidate will also be able to inspire confidence in others, making it easy for them to trust in his insights, directives, and judgments.

  • Excellent leadership skills

  • Excellent knowledge of MS suite

  • The ability to foster self-motivation to achieve tight deadlines
