If you love BMW’s classic combination of performance and style, the i4 may just be the lease car for you. This all-electric Gran Coupe is elegant, powerful and efficient – a sophisticated choice for business and personal EV leasing alike. And it’s a strong competitor with other all-electric models such as the Kia EV6 and the Tesla Model 3.
Key highlights
The BMW i4 is a brand new star in BMW’s already impressive EV range. The manufacturer’s first-ever all-electric Gran Coupe, it’s only been in production since 2021. It has all the creature comforts you’d expect from a BMW, such as a luxurious and well-designed cabin, intuitive dashboard display and iDrive controller wheel. But it’s closer in look and feel to the traditional BMW range than to other electric models. In the words of Top Gear, “This is a proper BMW”.
Business customers will pay just 1% Benefit in Kind (BIK) tax when they lease the BMW i4, rising to just 2% for 2022-23.
Performance & range
The regular BMW i4 gran coupe, the eDrive 40, has a 250kw power unit. With 340 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque, it’s capable of accelerating from 0-60 in under six seconds.
If you choose the BMW i4 M50, you’ll unlock a whole other level of performance. The M50 has 551 hp and can get from zero to 62 in a mere 3.9 seconds. And it has a whole range of beautiful design features you won’t find in the eDrive 40.
The i4 has an impressive range across the board: up to 366 miles between charges, depending on which model you opt for. The rapid charging system means you can get the battery from 10% to 80% in just over half an hour.

Similar models
If you like the look of the BMW i4 but would like to check out the competition before you decide, the most obvious rival is the Tesla Model 3. The Model 3 is an established favourite among EV drivers, and its price point is a bit more accessible than the i4. But the luxurious feel of the i4 offers quite a different driving experience. Kia’s first all-electric vehicle, the EV6, also deserves serious consideration.
