The MINI Electric brings the iconic hatchback into the electric era and looks all-but-identical to the combustion-engined version. Why mess with the king of cool? Fortunately, this all-electric version also retains its characterful cabin and remains fun to drive, delivering performance and range to get you around town with ease.
Key highlights
The MINI Electric has been designed for life in the urban jungle and excels for short trips. While it looks oh-so-similar to the non-electric MINI hatchback, fancy detailing is available if you’re keen to make a more visible green statement. It’s nippy in town with light steering that makes it a doddle to park, especially with the rear sensors. Despite its dinky dimensions, the MINI Electric has plenty of space for two adults up front with a pair of rear chairs that are comfy enough for short journeys. The 211-litre boot may not offer enough space for a family holiday but it’s plenty big enough for the weekly shop.
Performance and range
On the road is where the MINI Electric really stands out in comparison to its rivals. Not necessarily in the facts and figures department - the 0-62mph time of 7.3 seconds is respectable and in line with the sporty MINI Cooper - but for how it feels behind the wheel. The trademark MINI go-kart feeling is alive and kicking here, while range from the 32kWh battery is 145 miles – perfect for daily commutes and the odd weekend adventure. MINI also offers plenty of personalisation through the trims that are simply named Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3.
