GRIDSERVE will put its emerging Electric Freightway infrastructure to the ultimate test this September, as it takes part in the 2026 Greenfleet Mythbusters EV Rally.

The five-day rally, which takes place from 7–11 September, will demonstrate the real-world capability of electric heavy goods vehicles (eHGVs) en masse and showcase the charging infrastructure supporting the decarbonisation of heavy goods transport in the UK.

GRIDSERVE will lead the Trucks+Trailers (T+T) element of the event, with GRIDSERVE Ambassador Sam Clarke driving a DAF XD Electric builders merchant rigid truck, supplied by Ford & Slater and supported by co-driver, Jordan Conway. Meanwhile, John Jesson from Motus Commercials will take the wheel of an accompanying DAF XF Electric, with trailer support supplied by the Dawson Group.

The GREENFLEET Mythbusters EV Rally is designed to challenge commonly held assumptions around electric vehicle adoption through real-world driving, daily challenges and measurable performance data. Across the five-day event, teams will tackle questions around range, charging infrastructure, total cost of ownership, battery performance and the practicalities of operating electric vehicles of all sizes.

A key feature of the T+T route will be the use of the GRIDSERVE Electric Freightway. The Electric Freightway was conceived as part of the Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator (ZEHID) programme, funded by the Department for Transport and delivered in partnership with Innovate UK.

Led by GRIDSERVE, the programme brought together industry partners to deploy fleets of fully-electric HGVs alongside its custom designed, ultra-rapid charging infrastructure, generating real-world evidence to support the UK’s transition to zero-emission freight while laying the foundations for a nationwide network for electric trucks.

Today, the Electric Freightway network continues to expand, with GRIDSERVE committed to opening 11 publicly available eHGV charging hubs by early 2027. The Greenfleet Rally will visit five sites already open: Moto Exeter, Moto Tamworth, Extra Baldock, Stevenage Electric Forecourt and Markham Vale Electric Forecourt.

This highly visible, rolling demonstration will showcase how electric trucks and superfast, reliable charging infrastructure can work together on journeys that reflect genuine commercial use, giving drivers, fleet operators and the wider industry an opportunity to experience the capabilities of electric freight first-hand.

The rally will start in Exeter on 7 September, before travelling across the UK and finishing on 10 September at Everything Electric Greater London at Twickenham Stadium, where participants will celebrate the completion of the challenge alongside the EV exhibition.
