GRIDSERVE, the UK’s most used electric vehicle (EV) charging network, has today announced the introduction of ABB E-mobility’s new A400 charger on the Electric Highway. The launch represents a major step forward in GRIDSERVE’s mission to deliver the fastest, most reliable and most convenient EV charging experience in the country.
With more than 200 charging locations delivered in just five years, including coverage across 85% of the UK’s motorway network, GRIDSERVE is continuing to expand its industry-leading infrastructure and invest in the next generation of super-fast EV chargers.
Making its debut at GRIDSERVE’s latest EV charging station at Centaurus Park in Bristol, located one mile from Junction 17 of the M5, ABB E-mobility’s A400 charger has been designed to tackle three of the biggest challenges in EV charging today: reliability, simplicity and operational efficiency.
It features an all-new 32-inch touchscreen interface, helping to guide drivers clearly through each step of the EV charging process – from plugging in to payment – and has been engineered to achieve an industry-leading uptime and charging success rate in line with the requirements of the UK Public Charging Point Regulation (UK PCPR), ensuring that drivers can charge confidently every time.
The ABB A400 also delivers a maximum and market-leading 400kW of ultra-rapid charging power, which is enough for the latest electric vehicles to add more than one hundred miles of range in less than 10 minutes. Further, two CCS charging ports allow two vehicles to charge simultaneously, while dynamic power sharing means that the full 400kW can be modulated between both vehicles depending on their charging needs.
“Our goal has always been to make EV charging easy and as dependable as filling up your car with petrol or diesel,” said Rebecca Trebble, Chief Customer Officer at GRIDSERVE. “By partnering with ABB E-mobility to introduce the A400, we’re setting a new benchmark for performance and reliability, both for the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway and for the UK. This technology allows us to deliver faster charging and an even smoother customer experience at scale.”
Behind the scenes, the GRIDSERVE Innovation and Operations Centre (GIOC) remotely monitors and manages all charging assets 24/7, to ensure high availability, fast fault resolution and predictive maintenance across the network. Combined with an in-house roadside patrol team, this approach reinforces GRIDSERVE’s commitment to providing a charging experience that drivers can always depend on.
Bruno Bourguet, Head of Europe Region and Channels, said: “Innovation in charging technology is key to making electric driving effortless, and GRIDSERVE’s deployment of our latest A400 charger marks a milestone for UK drivers.
“The A400 has been built from the ground up to bring reliability, scalability and performance to EV charging. With its intuitive design, including an award-winning user experience and interface, it sets a new benchmark for easy-to-use and easy-to-operate charging.”
