As the nation gears up to travel back home this holiday season, new data from on-the-go EV charging company GRIDSERVE suggests that 19th December will be the busiest day on the road for those travelling over the Christmas period.

Some motorists should also be cautious when travelling between 12pm-1pm and 3pm-4pm, as research reveals that these will be the busiest times for travel over the Christmas period, particularly EV drivers looking to charge. Motorists are advised to plan and charge or refuel first thing in the morning or after 4pm to beat the crowds.

With EV drivers set to drive more than 190 miles over the festive season, GRIDSERVE has revealed one simple trick that can save them 25% on all charging, not just for Christmas but all of 2026 too*.

The new GRIDSERVE Plus membership available on the GRIDSERVE app helps customers save on charging. The membership offers customers an instant 25% off on all charging across its nationwide network of 200+ locations for just £7.99 a month, meaning that it pays for itself in just one 39kWh charge.

Those with Plus membership can save an average of £11 per charging session** this winter, making it one of the most cost-efficient ways to charge for less.

The saving doesn’t stop there: from 15 December to 3 January, members filling up at a GRIDSERVE Electric Forecourt can also get a free barista-made coffee to keep them warm when driving home for Christmas.

With GRIDSERVE’s Electric Highway covering over 85% of the nation’s motorway network, EV drivers can travel home this Christmas with confidence, knowing the best charging experience is never far away and more affordable than ever.

Daniel Kunkel, CEO at GRIDSERVE, said: “With millions set to hit the road this Christmas, motorways and A-roads are expected to get significantly busier, especially in the days leading up to and after Christmas.

“At GRIDSERVE, our priority is giving drivers the freedom to travel across the UK with confidence. That means super-fast, reliable and convenient charging for stress-free journeys – no matter how busy the roads get. We’re continuing to expand and strengthen our EV charging network to keep drivers moving across the nation and make electric travel as easy and liberating as it should be.

“Launching our GRIDSERVE Plus Membership allows our members to enjoy a seamless and good value charging experience.”
