GRIDSERVE and Moto have today unveiled the extended Electric Super Hub at Moto Sawtry, significantly increasing ultra-rapid charging capacity on the A1(M). Located near Sawtry on the A1(M) between Peterborough and Huntingdon, Moto Sawtry first opened its doors in 2025 and launched with six of GRIDSERVE’s industry-leading electric vehicle (EV) charging bays. In less than 12 months, that provision has now doubled in direct response to the site’s growing popularity and rising charger utilisation.
With high quality amenities available 24/7, plus retailers including M&S Food, Pret and Burger King, the all-new motorway services has quickly established itself as an important charging destination for drivers travelling along this vital north–south corridor.
Each charger is capable of delivering up to 360kW of power, enabling the latest electric vehicles to gain up to 100 miles of range in less than 10 minutes, or a substantial recharge in the time it takes to have a comfort break.
To maximise accessibility, all charging bays have been located close to the site entrance, while two of the 12 bays have a larger footprint and are labelled as accessible. To make EV charging easy, all GRIDSERVE chargers available on the Electric Highway are ‘plug in and pay’ simple to use and accept contactless payment cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Real-time status of the network’s 200+ locations is also shared with the UK’s most popular EV charging maps, including Zap-Map.
Daniel Kunkel, CEO of GRIDSERVE, said: “We are committed to building a UK-wide charging network at a pace that gives drivers complete confidence to go electric. Expanding our Electric Super Hub at Moto Sawtry so soon after its opening reflects both the strength of demand we are seeing and the importance of this stretch of the A1(M). By doubling capacity here, we are ensuring drivers can charge quickly, reliably and conveniently on one of the country’s most important road links.”
Ken McMeikan, Chief Executive of Moto Hospitality, said: “We are passionate about transforming the EV charging experience across the UK motorway network. The expansion at Moto Sawtry demonstrates the success of our partnership with GRIDSERVE and our shared ambition to provide high-quality, ultra-rapid charging at modern, well-equipped service areas. As EV adoption continues to accelerate, increasing capacity at key locations like Sawtry is essential to meeting driver demand.”
The Electric Super Hub at Moto Sawtry continues to provide superfast, reliable and convenient charging for local communities as well as drivers travelling between the East of England, the Midlands and the North. As more motorists make the switch to electric, GRIDSERVE continues its commitment to developing a nationwide network of ultra-rapid charging hubs that will support the UK’s transition to net zero transport.
