The Fiat 500 is all about life in the city. With its dinky dimensions and chic retro-Italian styling, it’s perfect for weaving in between traffic on the way to the shops before parking in a tight gap that your regular family SUV wouldn’t get near to. The impressive range, however, means you’re not restricted to city life if you do fancy a weekend away.
Key highlights of the Fiat 500
The Fiat 500 dates back to the 1950s when you’d find it ever-present in narrow Italian alleys. The all-electric 500 has grown up a bit since then but it still keeps the retro-chic styling that has made it popular with buyers for over 60 years.
Inside is a different story, though, with the Fiat 500 Electric well and truly in the 21st century. There’s a big touchscreen that you can hook up to your Apple or Android smartphone plus a host of excellent safety assistance tech like drowsy driver detection, autonomous emergency braking and traffic sign recognition.
Because of its dinky dimensions, the rear seats are best for occasional use only, but if it's just you and one passenger on a day trip, space up front is pretty impressive. The boot is similarly small but plenty big enough for the weekly shop.
Fiat 500 performance and range
On the road, the Fiat 500 has an incredibly tight turning circle making it nimble in the city. The range of almost 200 miles means if you stay put in and around town you’ll rarely need to charge and if you do venture further afield that’s plenty of juice to get you places.
Cleverly, the Fiat 500 comes with three different driving modes: Normal, Range, and long-distance Sherpa. Just like a Himalayan Sherpa, the last of these modes will reduce power and pump up the regen braking effect to maximise range to get you home safely.
