The Fiat New 500 is the ideal car for trips around town. It’s adorably small, making it satisfyingly simple to park. This nippy little electric vehicle is just as happy popping down to the shops as it is driving through a busy market town. Electric car leasing doesn’t have to be all about cutting down emissions and saving the planet. Fiat has proved it can be fun, too.
Key highlights
Leasing a Fiat electric car is as close as you can get to leasing a companion for the road. The Fiat New 500 has some excellent safety assistance tech on board, including Drowsy Driver Detection, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition. The Fiat Co-Driver with Traffic Jam Assist autonomously maintains the distance between you and the vehicle in front, accelerating, braking and keeping you in the middle of the lane at any speed and in any traffic conditions.
And it comes with three different driving modes: Normal, Range, and long-distance Sherpa. Just like a Himalayan Sherpa, the last of these modes will take over the trip and guide you along your way.
Fiat actually released an electric vehicle back in the 90s. New technology, however, has meant that they’ve now managed to create the perfect city car with the Fiat New 500. They’ve taken the 2007 model and made it a few centimetres wider and longer to accommodate the battery packs. However, Fiat have made sure to retain the cuteness of the original that makes it one of the UK’s most popular small cars.
They’re also planning to create a new generation of the popular Panda which will also be 100% emission-free. Watch this space.
Performance and range
The Fiat New 500 comes with a rapid charging system. In just 5 minutes, you can charge enough to travel 31 miles, and the battery will be at 80% capacity after just 35 minutes. And it’s quick off the starting blocks, too, going from 0-60mph in 9 seconds. With a range just shy of 200 miles, the average UK user only needs to think about charging it every ten days.
