The MG ZS is a fully electric compact SUV from the British-born, Chinese-owned MG brand. It’s not groundbreaking – it is, after all, a petrol-powered ZS that’s been given an electric makeover. However, it’s successfully taken everything that was great about the original (the space) and made it CO2-free.
Key highlights
The original ZS was a firm favourite due to its spacious comfort. And while the electric variant doesn’t quite have as much room, it’s still super-spacious when compared to other EVs on the market. The interior layout is clever, making the absolute most of the upfront space to create a big, airy cockpit for the driver and front passenger. And there’s plenty of room in the back, too, with big seats and an impressive boot. Overall, it’s roomier than many comparable cars like the Renault Zoe.
Performance & range
If speed is important, you’ll be pleased with the ZS’s performance. While the petrol-powered ZS was slow off the mark, the electric version is more impressive, which is good news for anyone looking for a zippy EV. It gets to 60 miles per hour in 8.2 seconds; a whole 2.2 seconds quicker than the original ZS.
Range-wise, the ZS holds its own in the electric car leasing market. Driving in various conditions, you should get, on average, 273 miles to a single charge. On rural roads and city streets, that figure is even more impressive at 305 miles and 370 miles respectively, making it MG’s longest-range EV yet. The only downside is that charge time isn’t quite as good as some others, at 63 minutes for a 0 to 80% boost.

Similar models
If you’re excited at the prospect of leasing an MG electric car, the MG5 is definitely worth a look. It performs much the same as the ZS, and has the same in-car technology. As an estate, however, it doesn’t have quite the same amount of room as this SUV. If brand doesn’t matter, consider some of the other compact SUVs dominating the EV leasing world. Some of the closest competitors of the MG5 include the Hyundai Kona, Kia e-Niro, and the Peugeot e-2008, although they don’t come close in terms of space.
