Tesla has been a pioneer in the electric car world for a number of years, with a reputation for EVs that are desirable, fast and packed with technology – all supported by the Supercharger network. The Model Y is Tesla’s family SUV and it’s a massive hit with drivers, consistently ranking as one of the number one best-sellers in the UK.
Key highlights of the Tesla Model Y
The Tesla Model Y is designed to provide a more versatile, spacious alternative to the smaller Model 3 . Carrying up to five passengers (or seven in the US with an optional third row of seats) it gets rear seats that can be folded at the push of a button and a UV protected glass roof for great views and an airy feel.
There’s a wealth of different storage options in the cabin and in the massive boot, with a deep underfloor area and even a separate ‘frunk’ (front boot) for storing muddy boots or wetsuits. This makes the Model Y an excellent EV leasing choice for family holidays or adventure sports enthusiasts.
As with all Teslas, it sports the latest in-car technology, with a feature-packed 15" touchscreen, in-built WiFi and streaming services and an impressive all-round camera system that can even record thieves or vandals. It’ll be constantly updated via Tesla’s over-the-air updates, too, so you’ll always be sure to have the latest gadgets.
There’s plenty of advanced safety technology included, too, like the clever Autopilot system, which with multiple cameras analysing the driving situation will take the strain on motorway cruising.
Tesla Model Y performance & range
The Tesla Model Y offers an impressive combination of high performance, long range and fast charging speeds.
The affordable entry-level Model Y is capable of 0-60mph in 6.6 seconds and 283 miles of range, but for the ultimate we’d check out the Tesla Model Y Long Range with its impressive 331 miles of range and 0-60mph time of 4.8 seconds.
Still not fast enough? There’s the thrilling Tesla Model Y Performance. That sees the range drop down slightly to 319 miles but the 0-60mph sprint taken care of in a supercar-like 3.5 seconds. That’s outrageous in a large family car.
What’s more, ultra-fast charging speeds of up to 250kW mean it’s possible to add up to 200 miles of range in 27 minutes via a Supercharger or GRIDSERVE’s High Power charger network.

We've made leasing an electric car easier than ever
The Tesla Model Y is comfortably one of the most popular EVs on the planet, breaking all kinds of electric car sales records. It’s easy to see why too, with its long range capability, straight line performance, lightning fast charging speeds, storage space and overall innovation.
By leasing a Tesla Model Y with GRIDSERVE, you can get three months of free charging across the GRIDSERVE network. Plus, we’ll plant 100 trees for every car that we lease to help give back to the planet.
The cheapest variant is the Tesla Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) edition, which offers power of up to 295bhp and has an estimated range of up to 283 miles. The acceleration from 0-62mph is 6.6 seconds.
The Tesla Model Y Long Range edition unsurprisingly has the longest range of all three variants at up to 351 miles. It also has all-wheel drive and a 0-62 time of 4.8 seconds.
The Tesla Model Y Performance edition has the highest power at 520bhp and a rapid 0-62mph time of just 3.5 seconds. The range is superb too, at 319 miles.
The exact price of a Tesla Model Y electric car lease agreement will depend on a range of factors, such as how long you are leasing the vehicle for, the annual mileage amount that you have chosen, whether it’s a personal or business lease, the initial rental payment period and the variant of Model Y you have selected.
The RWD version of the model Y is the cheapest variant, so may be the ideal choice if you want the quality of a Tesla but at a lower price.
GRIDSERVE offers leasing contract terms of 24, 36 and 48 months, so you can choose the option that best suits your personal or business leasing needs.
The Model Y measures 4,751mm in length and 1,921mm in width, excluding the mirrors. There is also plenty of room in the boot, with up to 2,158 litres of storage when all seats are folded down.
The exact time it takes to charge your Model Y will depend on the model and the type of charger it is hooked up to. As a guide, it would take roughly 12 hours to charge from empty to full with a 7kW charger, or from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes with a 150kW charger.
The two models are very similar and are both exceptional in their own right. The Model Y is actually based on the Model 3, hence why they share a lot of the same features.
The advantage of the Model Y is that it has more space inside the cabin and the boot area, though the Model 3 is easier to park, boasts a slightly longer range and is a little quicker off the line.
Yes, if you visit a GRIDSERVE Electric Forecourt® such as Braintree or Norwich, then you can book an electric car test drive of the excellent Tesla Model Y. Therefore you can get behind the wheel and get a real-life feel for the car before you decide whether you’d like to lease it long term.
If you have selected a personal car lease then your price will automatically include VAT, whereas a business car lease is excluding VAT. This is why personal deals are listed as being slightly more expensive than business deals.
