The Toyota bZ4x is the Japanese car maker’s first all-electric car – a well-rounded, capable, practical family SUV. Although it’s the first, you’ll get decades of engineering experience from the brand that pioneered electrification with the hybrid Prius, so reliability shouldn’t be an issue.
Want to know what the name means? bZ stands for Beyond Zero, 4 is the size, while X means it’s a crossover and has off-road abilities. Expect more Toyotas with a variation of this name in the future.
Key highlights of the Toyota bZ4X
The Toyota bZ4x majors on being usable every day, all day – although we think it looks pretty smart outside, too. There’s loads of legroom in the cabin for front and rear passengers alike, and the driving position is comfortable. A boot of 452 litres isn’t class-leading but is more than big enough for even the bigger family holiday road trips.
Being a Toyota means you’re pretty much guaranteed a high quality, reliable car, and the bZ4x feels well made. It’s also good to drive, comfortable and ideal for both short and long distances.
To keep the family safe, you’ll get Toyota’s suite of T-Mate safety systems, including standard automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assistance and adaptive cruise control. That all helped the car achieve the maximum five star safety rating from Euro NCAP.
The rest of the standard equipment is generous even on entry-level models, which include 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and start and pre-conditioning to heat or cool the cabin before driving. You even get a standard heat pump - usually an option on rivals - which increases the range in colder conditions.
Toyota bZ4X performance and range
The bZ4x is good on the road but also capable off it, so if you do need to go off-piste then the Toyota is a strong option compared to many SUVs, especially the four-wheel drive version using the X-MODE setting. The four-wheel drive model also lowers the 0-62mph time from 7.5 to a punchy 6.9 seconds.
Across the range is a 71kWh battery, which delivers up to 300 miles on a charge with the front-wheel drive model (range is slightly lower on the four-wheel drive car). For those charging on the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway, then you’ll be able to enjoy maximum charging speeds of 150kW from the bZ4x.

We've made leasing an electric car easier than ever
The bZ4X is Toyota’s first ever mass-market electric car, but it doesn’t feel like a first attempt. Boasting a solid range, off-road capability, competency in all areas, and great build quality, it also has the backing of Toyota’s decades-long experience with electric motors and batteries in hybrids.
Leasing a Toyota bZ4X offers several benefits when compared to buying. These include lower monthly payments, access to newer models with the latest features and technology, minimal maintenance costs, the ability to drive a higher-priced vehicle for a lower initial cost, and the flexibility to switch to a different vehicle after the lease term ends, without the hassle of selling.
When leasing with GRIDSERVE, the sustainable energy experts, you also contribute to environmental preservation. For every leased car we undertake the initiative of planting 100 trees, enabling you to make a tangible impact on the planet's well-being.
The range figures of your Toyota bZ4X lease deal will depend on the exact model you go for, with the top spec model having an official range of 318 miles according to WLTP tests. Other factors can affect the real world range figures, including the battery health, weather, driving style, weight of the car and more.
GRIDSERVE offers leasing options for the Toyota bZ4X catering to both business and personal needs. This versatility allows you to select the option that best aligns with your specific situation. The Toyota bZ4X is an excellent choice for a business vehicle, and could also be an option for those needing EV fleet solutions for multiple business vehicles.
The Toyota bZ4X is compatible with rapid chargers of up to 147kW DC, allowing the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in a quick 28 minutes. Please note that charging times may vary when using lower power chargers. To ensure a hassle-free journey, conveniently locate one of our EV charging stations along the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway.
Yes, you can include a maintenance package in your Toyota bZ4X leasing deal. This optional addition offers protection against unforeseen issues that may arise. By opting for a maintenance package, you can simplify your responsibilities as it covers maintenance-related matters, leaving you to only arrange for insurance.
