The Mercedes-Benz eSprinter is the largest model in the manufacturer’s electric van range and is enjoyable to drive around town. It’s only available as an L2H2 model, but that still means more than three metres of loading length, two metres of height and a total load area of 11m3. Worth noting that its payload is limited to 731kg, so it’s great at carrying big things, just not heavy ones.
Key highlights
The Mercedes-Benz eSprinter boasts good visibility, great refinement and a cabin that feels surprisingly upmarket for a van. The sleek centre console and chunky air vents look like they could have been lifted from one of Mercedes’ passenger cars. There is a choice of three driving modes labelled C, E and E+. The C stands for Comfort and is the default mode which delivers the full power and torque of the van. E, for Economy, limits power and torque, while E+ cuts performance back even further.
Performance and range
The Mercedes e-Sprinter has an official range of 95 miles which, given the rapid advancement of this sector, is no longer competitive with other rival manufacturers. That said, this premium model is still a great option for companies that have predictable loads, well-planned routes and are focussed on serving dense urban areas. If the eSprinter needs a bit of electron juice while out and about, the 55kW maximum charging rate makes a 10-80% top-up possible in half an hour when using one of GRIDSERVE’s Medium Power EV chargers.

For those business customers who may have more unpredictable payloads, or regularly need a longer range, consider the Ford E-Transit which is a better all-rounder. The Maxus eDeliver 9 is a strong value proposition, while the mechanically identical Peugeot e-Boxer, Citroen e-Relay and Vauxhall Movano-e are also worth a look.
