The Polestar 3 has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance travelled on a single charge.
The electric SUV completed 581.3 miles (or 935.44km) on UK roads – that’s enough to get you from London to Edinburgh without stopping (although your bladder may argue with the battery…).
The Long Range Single Motor model, which has an official WLTP range of 438 miles (706km), smashed past its claimed figures thanks to the eco-driving of some EV experts.
GRIDSERVE’s very own Sam Clarke and professional co-drivers Kevin Booker and Richard Parker took on the challenge which spanned 22 hours and 57 minutes.
The trio switched driving every three hours to stay alert, and although a flat route on A and B roads near Norwich had been selected, the challenge still involved traditional mixed British weather conditions.
With range-boosting driving styles, the Polestar 3 achieved efficiency figures of 12.1kWh/100 km (19.5kWh/100 miles). For context, the average EV uses around 30kWh/100 miles).
In fact, when the electric SUV hit 438 miles, the battery still had 20% of its battery remaining. It even delivered an extra eight miles after showing 0% battery, arriving at a charger at the Norwich Electric Forecourt before stopping.
The attempt was adjudicated by Guinness World Record judge Paulina Sapinska, who kept a keen eye on proceedings and ensured mileage was tracked comprehensively by the Webfleet data team.
The Polestar 3 ran on standard 20-inch wheels and Michelin Sport 4 EV tyres and had received no other modifications from the standard car you can drive in your local dealer.
Fortunately, the AA support van was not needed as the Polestar 3 completed the challenge without missing a beat.
