Students across Braintree were given an energising glimpse into the future of sustainable transport as GRIDSERVE took part in the Green Skills, Careers and Tech Day on 11 March.
Hosted by Braintree Council and the Braintree District Cultural Education Partnership, the event welcomed more than 200 pupils from local primary schools – including Great Bradfords, Lyons Hall, St Francis, White Notley, Bocking, St John the Baptist (Pebmarsh), Beckers Green and Edith Borthwick Special School – for a day focused on environmental awareness and future careers.
Alongside workshops on recycling and sustainability, the GRIDSERVE team from the Braintree Electric Forecourt brought a Tesla Model Y for students to explore. The vehicle helped illustrate the environmental benefits of electric cars, including zero tailpipe emissions and their ability to run on renewable energy.

The team also shared information about GRIDSERVE’s Electric Forecourts, highlighting how these award-winning electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are powered exclusively by renewable energy supporting the transition to net zero. With the Braintree Electric Forecourt located just a few miles away, students were able to connect what they were learning with pioneering infrastructure in their local area.
GRIDSERVE’s involvement reflects its wider commitment to supporting and engaging the next generation on climate issues. By taking part in local school initiatives, the company aims to make sustainability more accessible and show young people the role they can play in shaping a cleaner future.
Jack Short, Regional Forecourts Manager, said: “It’s incredibly rewarding to see the enthusiasm and awareness younger generations already have around sustainability. At GRIDSERVE, we place huge value on supporting school initiatives that are local to our Electric Forecourts, as these are the people that could go on to work in roles that help address the climate emergency. We want to give them the knowledge, confidence and hope to help drive change forward.”
