An SUV with a streamlined body, stylish interior and good driving experience? That’s exactly what you get from the Mazda MX-30. Since launch, it’s scooped a host of awards making it a top choice for affordable EV leasing, whether you’re cruising in town or need to ferry your small family around.
Key highlights of the Mazda MX-30
The MX-30 offers electric car leasing with a difference. This is no petrol or diesel car adapted to use battery power; it’s an EV-only model with a fashionable yet sporty small SUV design.
The Mazda MX-30 appears to be a two-door coupe but has a pair of hidden rear doors - designed to hark back to the firm’s RX-8 sports car - which open onto rear seats that will easily cater for a couple of kids. The smartly-designed and high quality interior makes use of fabrics made from recycled plastics and natural, renewable cork for some of its trim.
But the MX-30 is more than style over substance. Safety is also a key priority for family buyers leasing an electric car, and the Mazda MX-30’s strong construction has resulted in the maximum five star safety rating from crash test body Euro NCAP. That adds real peace-of-mind, as does standard active tech such as blind spot monitoring, driver attention alert and rear cross-traffic assist.
Mazda makes no secret of the MX-30’s shorter range and smaller battery than most electric car rivals. The reasoning is that a bigger, heavier battery pack uses more resources in its construction, meaning the MX-30 emits less in its whole life cycle than longer range models.
A lighter battery is also aimed at making it more fun to drive, and the MX-30 blends keen handling with an impressively comfortable and quiet ride. If you only need to whizz about town or have a second car for longer journeys, the keenly-priced Mazda MX-30 could be the EV lease for you.
Mazda MX-30 performance & range
At 35.5 kWh, the MX-30 has one of the smallest batteries in the EV market today but don’t let this put you off.
While it may not be designed for cross-country journeys, it’s the ideal urban explorer, especially given its compact size. The smaller battery also means you can recharge it quickly whether you’re at home or across the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway.
The MX-30’s performance from its 143hp motor is perky rather than punchy, with a 0-62mph time of 9.7 seconds. That’s plenty fast enough for zipping about town, however, and the 87mph top speed means it isn’t out of its depth on faster roads.

Similar models to the Mazda MX-30
If leasing a Mazda MX-30 isn’t for you as you need more space or a longer range, there are a number of other compact electric SUVs on the market like the Kia Soul, Vauxhall Mokka-e, and Hyundai Kona. And if it’s a city runaround you’re looking for, the Honda e has a similar battery size and driving range, although it’s not a SUV.

We've made leasing an electric car easier than ever
Mazda’s MX-30 offers great value for money from a popular brand. It combines a fun driving experience with a high-quality interior made from sustainable materials that give it a classy feel when compared to other EVs in a similar price range. Its external design is also unique, with ‘freestyle’ doors meaning that the front and back doors open together with no column in between them.
When you decide to lease a Mazda MX-30 with GRIDSERVE you can also include tax, insurance and maintenance as part of the deal. Plus, we have hundreds of chargers across the UK as part of our GRIDSERVE Electric Highway, meaning you can plan all of your journeys effectively and you can always know where and when you can charge your MX-30 model.
The range of the Mazda MX-30 is officially 124 miles, which equates to around 105 miles as a real-world estimate. If you spend most of your time taking short trips in inner city areas then this should be more than enough range for you.
This is slightly lower than some similar models though, so if range is one of your key factors when looking for your next car, then it may be best to take a look at models like the Kia Soul EV or MG 4.
There are currently three different editions of the Mazda MX-30 that are available to lease, so you can choose from any of the following:
The most cost-effective model, the Prime Line, provides you with 18-inch alloy wheels, as well as sat-nav, front and rear parking sensors and a head-up display.
The mid-level edition, known as Exclusive Line, also adds features like keyless entry, heated seats, an electric driver’s seat and two-tone paint schemes.
The top-of-the-range edition comes in the form of the Makoto, which offers an electric sunroof along with a heated steering wheel and a 12-speaker Bose sound system.
The price you’ll pay for your Mazda MX-30 electric car lease agreement will be dependent on several factors, including the length of the MX-30 lease deal, your annual mileage figures, whether it’s a personal or business lease, the initial rental payment and the exact edition of the MX-30 that you’ve gone for.
Prices fluctuate but as the entry-level version, the MX-30 Prime Line tends to be the cheapest. Make sure to check back to see what the latest prices are on all of our Mazda MX-30 leasing deals.
