The Peugeot e-Boxer is a fully-electric version of a large van that has been on sale in various guises since 2006. Rather than being a factory-built effort, the e-Boxer is a third-party conversion by UK-based electrification specialists BEDEO. As such, there are a few idiosyncratic finishes to some elements of the van’s cabin that you wouldn’t see in some of Peugeot’s smaller vans.
Key highlights
The e-Boxer can be bought or leased in three lengths - labelled L2, L3 and L4 - and just one roof height. The cab is functional and practical enough, although the design does reveal its age in some places. A five-inch touchscreen with low-resolution graphics feels a bit piddly when compared to the multiscreen universe of other rivals. Further, there are no paddles to control the level of regenerative braking, no eco modes to maximise range, just three buttons: D for Drive, N for neutral and R for reverse. Simple but effective.
Performance and range
The e-Boxer L2 model only comes as a panel van and is available with a 37kWh battery, while all other versions are fitted with a larger 75kWh battery pack. The e-Boxers with the bigger 75kWh battery offer 154 miles of range per charge, while the L2 panel van covers 73 miles. The maximum 50kW charging rate isn’t as impressive as other rivals in this segment, but it means a 0-80% juice-up can be achieved within an hour.
