GRIDSERVE has just completed a major multi-million-pound power infrastructure upgrade at Knutsford Services on the M6, unlocking a brand-new EV Super Hub for drivers travelling through one of the busiest motorway corridors in the North West. It’s a big moment for us, and an even bigger moment for anyone relying on fast, reliable electric vehicle charging when travelling long distances.
Powering up for the future of electric mobility
To bring this new EV Super Hub to life, our engineering teams undertook one of our most ambitious power projects to date, drilling beneath eight lanes of the M6 to install high-voltage cabling and building a new primary substation to give Knutsford the robust, future-proof power infrastructure needed to support the rapid rise in EV adoption across the UK.
This increased capacity not only enables ultra-rapid charging today but also lays the foundation for the next decade of electric mobility, sustainable travel and low-carbon transport. Ensuring Knutsford can continue to meet growing future demand is essential, as more drivers switch to EVs and rely on dependable, high-power public charging.

Ultra-rapid charging on both sides of the motorway
Both the northbound and southbound areas of Knutsford Services now feature 12 new ultra-rapid EV charging bays, each delivering up to 350–360 kW. That means compatible EVs can add roughly 100 miles of range in under 10 minutes, making long distance electric travel easier and faster.
We’ve also future-proofed the entire site to allow for expansion as EV uptake accelerates. Whether drivers are commuting, holidaying, or making that initial transition to electric, Knutsford is designed to keep everyone moving with confidence.
Just where drivers need us most
Knutsford is one of the M6’s busiest service stations, so building high-power, reliable EV charging here has a real impact. For us, this isn’t about delivering infrastructure where it’s easiest; it’s about delivering it where it matters.
By upgrading the site’s core electrical infrastructure, we’re ensuring that the Northwest has reliable access to sustainable travel options, ultra-rapid EV charging, and the clean energy technologies that support the UK’s wider goal to achieve Net Zero.

Driving a more sustainable future
This upgrade is another milestone in our mission to deliver a greener transport future. By investing in high-power EV charging infrastructure, renewable energy and sustainable travel solutions, we’re making it easier for drivers to choose electric and reduce emissions with every journey.
Knutsford’s new EV Super Hub is a strong step forward, and we’re excited to continue expanding the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway with even more charging locations, more power and more sustainable energy solutions across the UK.
