Bigger, faster, smarter: Moto Exeter expands into the UK’s largest EV charging Super Hub

• Moto Exeter now hosts the UK’s largest EV charging Super Hub
• 48 ultra-rapid GRIDSERVE charging bays now available, including four dedicated charging lanes for electric Heavy Goods Vehicles (eHGVs)
• Latest-generation 400kW-capable chargers from ABB E-mobility also debut to enable faster charging and improved user experience
February 3, 2026

GRIDSERVE, the UK’s most used EV charging network, has today announced that Moto Exeter is now home to the largest EV charging Super Hub in the country, following the completion of a major expansion at the site.

The Exeter Super Hub now features 48 ultra-rapid charging bays, comprising 44 bays for passenger electric vehicles and four dedicated electric Heavy Goods Vehicles (eHGV) charging lanes. This represents a major step forward in delivering future-ready charging infrastructure that can support the UK’s ambition to decarbonise road transport.

Strategically located at J30 of the M5, the site serves one of the UK’s busiest motorway corridors and has been upgraded to meet rapidly increasing demand and minimise waiting times while continuing to provide reliable, super-fast charging at scale. By combining advanced grid connections with best-in-class technology, this location establishes a new benchmark for what EV charging at Motorway Service Areas can achieve.

“The Moto Exeter Super Hub is a major milestone in GRIDSERVE’s mission to deliver the fastest, most reliable and most convenient EV charging experience in the UK,” said Daniel Kunkel, CEO of GRIDSERVE. “What started as a legacy site of the Electric Highway has evolved to become the largest, ultra-rapid EV charging station in the country.

“We’re showing what’s possible when long-term infrastructure planning, grid investment and cutting-edge technology from ABB E-mobility comes together to support the shift to electric transport for everyone. And as EV adoption continues to accelerate, GRIDSERVE remains committed to building the infrastructure required to support cleaner transport.”

Moto Hospitality’s Chief Executive, Ken McMeikan, added: “The expansion of our Super Hub at Exeter marks a major milestone in our mission to revolutionise EV charging on the UK’s motorway network. Now the UK’s largest EV charging hub, with increased capacity and High Power charging bays, this new facility will provide a significant boost for EV drivers travelling on the M5.

“It demonstrates our continued commitment to enhancing the EV charging experience through greater reliability, simplicity, speed and accessibility at key locations across our network.”

The evolution of EV charging in the UK

The transformation of Moto Exeter began following GRIDSERVE’s acquisition of the Electric Highway from Ecotricity in 2021, laying the foundations for a new generation of super-fast EV charging locations that could give drivers the confidence to make the switch to electric.

Over the last four years, this vision has been realised at a national level, while Moto Exeter has been comprehensively redeveloped through upgraded grid connections and a series of expansions, from 12 ultra-rapid EV charging bays in 2022 to 48 bays in 2026, helping keep pace with growing EV adoption.

The GRIDSERVE Super Hub at Moto Exeter is also a great demonstration of the company’s long-term relationships with both Moto and the EV charge point manufacturer ABB E-Mobility, who have been partners with GRIDSERVE since the start. Each generation of charger has brought improvements in charging speed, power management and user experience.

In its most recent expansion at Moto Exeter, GRIDSERVE has installed ABB’s latest A400 charger, designed to support the next generation of EVs. Capable of delivering up to 400kW of power, the A400 helps maintain GRIDSERVE’s commitment to super-fast charging, with an award-winning user interface and enhanced reliability, including advanced thermal management that ensures consistent performance under sustained high loads.

“The site’s early deployment of ABB T124 chargers played a pivotal role in supporting the first wave of EV drivers,” explained Oliver Johnson, Country Lead of ABB E-Mobility. “Now, with GRIDSERVE launching its first ‘Super Hub’ concept at Exeter, we can see just how far EV technology has progressed with the introduction of the A400 charger. Delivering significantly faster charging speeds and intelligent dynamic power sharing – distributing available power across multiple vehicles to maximize efficiency during busy periods – the A400 sets a new benchmark for what a best‑in‑class charging experience should be.”
