Planning permission for a new Electric Forecourt® in Markham Vale, near the M1 in Derbyshire, has been approved. The new Electric Forecourt® will be located between Enterprise Way and the eastern side of Duckmanton, featuring 25 High Power chargers, providing up to 350kW – powerful enough to supply up to 100 miles of range in less than 10 minutes. Additionally, five AC chargers providing up to 22kW, complete the plans. All chargers are supplied by 100% renewable energy as part of GRIDSERVE’s Sun-to-Wheel ecosystem.
Markham Vale is a flagship industrial and logistics development delivered in partnership by property developer, HBD and Derbyshire County Council. It is one of the region’s most successful schemes having created over 2,700 jobs at more than 75 businesses within 2.2m sq. ft. of space.
The new Electric Forecourt® makes a significant contribution to local electric vehicle charging infrastructure by more than double the number of public chargers in the Chesterfield Borough. Construction of the new Electric Forecourt® at Markham Vale is due to start later in 2023, with opening being targeted for the second half of 2024.
The Electric Forecourts® have been a huge success and help to their local communities. The areas around the award-winning Braintree and Norwich Electric Forecourts® have seen an increase in EV registrations since opening as drivers feel confident to make the switch with easy and reliable charging in their local community.
Raoul Tufnell, Chief Development Officer at GRIDSERVE, said: “We are thrilled planning has been secured for this key location. We are committed to delivering dependable EV charging infrastructure and we hope to accelerate the transition to e-mobility through providing really positive charging experiences at our flagship Electric Forecourts®. We are looking forward to getting started at this location and opening next year.”
David Wells, Director at HBD, said: “We’re pleased to have been able to work with GRIDSERVE to deliver this latest addition to their national network – Markham Vale offers the ideal location and it’s great to play a role in the expansion of Chesterfield’s net zero infrastructure. This investment provides further amenity as we continue to develop the circa 18 acres of land that is still available at Markham Vale.”
GRIDSERVE’s third Electric Forecourt® at London Gatwick Airport will open later in 2023 with planning permission secured at Nevendon, Gateshead, Plymouth and Stevenage, and more than 30 additional sites also under development.
