GRIDSERVE marks record start to 2026 with accelerating expansion of EV charging network

GRIDSERVE new 400kW charger from ABB now on the Electric Highway

GRIDSERVE has made a strong start to 2026, delivering its fastest-ever first quarter for new charging infrastructure, continuing to build momentum behind the UK’s transition to electric vehicles.

In the first three months of the year, the company opened or expanded 12 Electric Super Hubs across the country, from Moto Kinross and Fort Kinnaird in Scotland down to Folkestone M20 Services near the Channel Tunnel. That’s a total of 120 new charging bays added to the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway.

The new sites span key motorway and retail locations, helping to strengthen GRIDSERVE’s nationwide coverage along some of the UK’s busiest routes and making EV travel that bit more convenient.

The company’s enhanced partnership with Extra has also played a key role in this expansion. Seven new Super Hubs are set to roll out through the collaboration this year, with four already live at Baldock, Beaconsfield, Cambridge and Peterborough.

George Lloyd, Group Head of Delivery for GRIDSERVE, said: “The pace of delivery we’ve achieved in the first quarter of 2026 is our strongest yet, and it’s a real testament to the dedication and expertise of the team behind our Super Hubs, as well as the long-term relationships we have developed with our partners. From concept through to construction and energisation, this rollout reflects a huge collective effort. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together as we continue to scale a reliable, nationwide charging network for EV drivers across the UK.”

Expanding into electric freight

Alongside the Electric Highway, GRIDSERVE has also taken an important step into electric freight thanks to support from industry, Innovate UK and Department for Transport. In January, GRIDSERVE CEO Daniel Kunkel officially opened the UK’s first dedicated motorway charging hubs for electric HGVs.

The two locations at Moto Exeter and Extra Baldock represent the first phase of the GRIDSERVE Electric Freightway, an emerging network designed to bring the same speed, reliability and convenience to electric trucks as the Electric Highway has established for cars and vans. With a further nine motorway locations already announced, the company has a clear vision and intent to scale this infrastructure and support the decarbonization of a sector that accounts for 16% of total domestic transport greenhouse gas emissions.

More than just charging

GRIDSERVE’s award-winning Electric Forecourts continue to evolve, too, offering more than simply a place to recharge. At Stevenage, a new Post Office Shop has been added for customers, while the site recently hosted the UK Car of the Year Awards. If you want to see evidence that EVs are now mainstream, then know that seven of the eight finalists were fully electric.

Elsewhere, Braintree supported the annual Greentech School Day focused on sustainability, and in Norwich, GRIDSERVE Plus members were offered complimentary EV health checks while charging.

“GRIDSERVE Plus is all about making the EV charging experience simpler, better value and more rewarding for our customers,” explains Rebecca Trebble, Chief Customer Officer. “As our network continues to grow, we want to give drivers even more reasons to choose GRIDSERVE, whether that’s through meaningful savings, added convenience or thoughtful perks along the way. It’s an important part of how we’re enhancing the overall customer experience in 2026 while continuing to strengthen our position as a leader in the UK’s EV charging market.”

As an offer, GRIDSERVE Plus members receive 25% off all charging sessions across GRIDSERVE’s 200 locations for £7.99 per month, alongside additional perks and seasonal offers.

Momentum shows no signs of slowing in Q2, with GRIDSERVE set to open its fifth Electric Forecourt at Markham Vale as the company continues to position itself at the centre of the UK’s evolving electric transport landscape.
