Extra MSA and GRIDSERVE are joining forces to further strengthen Electric Vehicle (EV) charging on the motorway network with seven all-new Super Hubs at key service area locations.
Building on a successful long-term partnership, this expansion will add 96 High Power charging bays across the Extra estate by late 2026 – significantly boosting capacity for electric drivers on some of the country’s busiest travel corridors.
Each Super Hub will feature the latest 400kW-capable chargers, delivering enough energy for the latest models to add over 100 miles of range in less than 10 minutes. The first of these new Super Hubs will open at Beaconsfield Services in December, with further sites confirmed at Baldock, Cambridge, Cobham, Cullompton, Leeds Skelton Lake and Peterborough.
GRIDSERVE has provided Medium Power EV charging across the Extra MSA network since it acquired the Electric Highway in 2021. Now the UK’s most-used public charging network, GRIDSERVE is once again setting new standards in speed, reliability, convenience and accessibility through its ongoing partnership with Extra.
Daniel Kunkel, CEO of GRIDSERVE, said: “We’re incredibly proud to expand our partnership with Extra. Both of our organisations share the same vision – putting customers and the planet at the heart of everything we do. From Extra’s first site at Cambridge to its latest development near Warrington, its commitment to quality and sustainability is clear. Together, we’re building a network that gives EV drivers the confidence to be able to charge quickly, easily and reliably, wherever they travel.”
Tom Dobson, CEO at Extra MSA Group, said: “Our ambition has always been to go the ‘Extra mile’ for our customers, whether that’s through great food, drink and retail, high-quality design and amenity, or world-class EV charging. Partnering with GRIDSERVE, one of the most trusted names in the sector, ensures we can meet the rapidly growing demand for convenient, high-speed charging across our network, while future-proofing our estate to meet evolving customer needs.”
The partnership between Extra and GRIDSERVE marks another major step towards a cleaner, faster and more sustainable transport future for the UK’s road users. Extra is also supporting the GRIDSERVE Electric Freightway project, which will see the beginnings of a nationwide charging network designed specifically for trucks. Its first dedicated ‘eHGV charging hub’ is expected to open at Extra Baldock Services in December.
